Atlas Film - Develop before November 1949
This roll of All Purpose Atlas Film in from Atlas Supply company (made in U.S.A.) was supposed to be developed before November 1949. It had to wait till April 2022.
The 127 type roll came in a mailing tube with an instruction leaflet, return address label and a sticker to be put on the tube for posting it to Magnapix Film Services, PO box 5106, Chicago 80, Illinois. I could not find any information on Atlas Supply company or Magnapix Film Services, so I had to develop it myself.
I used Barry Thornton's two bath developer for 4 minutes in Bath A and 4 minutes in Bath B. The negative came out very thin and with a lot of fog. Hardly surprising after 73 years of storage. The images are barely discernible by a naked eye. I had to use a lot of post-processing to extract whatever information was left. Only three frames could be recovered.
I doubt that Atlas Supply company had facilities to coat emulsion and package film. Apparently, it was a distributor similar to Supreme Photo Supply Co. Inc. NY. that sold Var-i-pan film in the 1960s. The edge of the Atlas film is very jagged as if it was cut from a master roll using dull knifes. The backing paper is light green and has no additional information.
The roll was almost certainly shot in the USA and then somehow found its way to the UK before ending in Australia. It can be reliably dated by 1948-1949.
